The Method

Why do smart people keep getting stuck in the same patterns?

Most high-performing people already know what they should do.

Slow down.

Draw boundaries.

Make space for yourself.

The challenge isn’t knowing. It’s staying connected to what you know when life gets busy, demanding or uncertain.

The Congruity Method develops three capacities that make that possible:

Clarity. Awareness. Self-Trust.

02Tensions

Beneath most recurring patterns is a tension.

  • A tension is not a problem to solve.
  • It is not a choice between right and wrong.
  • It is not a sign that something is broken.

A tension exists when two legitimate needs, values or truths are pulling in different directions at the same time.

You might recognise some of these

  • I want to change, and I’m afraid of what change might mean.
  • I want to be honest, and I want to belong.
  • I want freedom,and I want security.
  • I want to look after myself, and I want to look after others.
  • I want certainty,and I want to grow.
  • I want harmony, and I want to tell the truth.
A note before the work

The goal isn’t to eliminate tensions.

Tensions are a normal part of being human. They don’t disappear when you’re healthier, calmer or more successful.

The work is learning to recognise them clearly, stay connected to yourself while you’re inside them, and respond intentionally rather than automatically.

03The response

Three capacities for working inside a tension.

01

Clarity

Name the two needs that are actually in tension.

Most of the time you only feel the discomfort, not the structure underneath it. Clarity lets you see what’s really being negotiated, so you stop fighting the wrong battle.

02

Awareness

Stay with yourself while the tension is live.

Under pressure, attention collapses inward or rushes ahead. Awareness keeps you in contact with what you feel, want and fear in real time, long enough to choose instead of react.

03

Self-Trust

Move, even when no option feels fully right.

Tensions rarely resolve into a clean answer. Self-Trust is the capacity to act from your own judgement when certainty, approval or guarantees aren’t on offer, and to stay with the consequences.

04Outcomes

What changes.

    You finally have it.

  • Before

You know what needs to happen.

    After

    You decide.

  • Before

The same issue follows you for months.

    After

    Something moves.

  • Before

You replay what you should have said.

    After

You say it the first time.

  • Before

    You wait to feel ready.

    After

    You begin anyway.

  • Before

You agree, then resent it later.

    After

You say no in the moment.

  • Before

You manage how others might react.

    After

You speak, and let them have their response.
